This tour celebrates the artistic skills of one of Thailand's up-and-coming artists. Kittiwat Unarrom. Having completed his undergraduate studies perfecting portraits, he then ventured into unchartered territory for his Masters, combining his inherant understanding of the medium of dough - his family have a bakery in rural Thailand - with his artistic talent, to create very realistic 'Human Bread'.

    • Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak
    • Human Bakery in Ratchaburi province
    • Lunch at local Thai restaurant
    • Phra Pathom Jedi in Nakon Pathom
    • Thai Human Imageries Museum
    • Thanon Utthayan - Thailand's most beautiful road
    • Puttamonthon Park

Tour Program

Pick-up from your hotel at 07:30.

Drive to the Floating Market at Damnoen Saduak in Ratchaburi Province, where you can enjoy an hour wending your way through the myriad canals and boats. This is probably the most famous of all the floating markets around Bangkok, although there are many others.

Next stop is the day's 'main event'. Don't be surprised by the nondescript entrance, which is situated in the middle of the Thai countryside. This is home to the family bakery and also the only place where you can see the range of body parts which Kittiwat has crafted out of dough.

Done originally as part of his Master of Arts thesis at Silpakorn University, the baked body parts - and their creator - have become internationally known, with mentions on many internet websites and blogs.

His initial inspiration was taken from anatomy books and his vivid memories of visiting a forensics museum to create the human parts. When you enter, you'll be excused for thinking that you have stumbled into a mortuary by mistake!

These works are created as both edible and non-edible, depending on the end-users purpose. Some people only want them for 'shock value' or for display, in which case they are glazed when finished. Others prefer to have them as edible items, including restaurants (!) and they can be made accordingly.

To be honest they don't look very apertising, but as Kittiwat said "When people see the bread, they don't want to eat it. But when they taste it, it's just normal bread," he said. "The lesson is 'don't judge just by outer appearances'."

Kittiwat is currently working on his first public showing scheduled for November at Siam Square in Bangkok. Through people who have visited his bakery with Bangkok Day Tours, opportunities to exhibit his works are opening in Indonesia and Australia.

You can see more details about the 'Human Bakery', with larger photos here.

Following the visit to the 'Human Bakery' you should be ready for lunch, but we'll stop on the way for you to have a look at the world's tallest Buddhist stupa at Phra Pathom Jedi in Nakon Pathom. Originally dating back to 300 BC, the chedi was raised to 420 feet by King Mongkut in 1860.

After lunch we'll drive along Thanon Utthayan or Aksa Road, which is widely agreed to be Thailand's most beautiful road.

This will bring you to Puttamonthon Park, which is a major centre for Buddism and Thailand's largest standing Buddha is to be found here. It's a very beautiful park covering many acres and is notable for its serenity even though it's in the midst of the city. You can take time here to feed the fish. Thai people believe this is an auspicious thing to do and will bring you good luck for the future.

This is the last stop on your tour today, so when you're ready the driver will take you back to your hotel.
