Kanchanaburi

Kanchanaburi is approximately 130 kilometres west of Bangkok and is the third largest province in Thailand after Chiang Mai and Nakhon Ratchasima.

It covers an area of 19,486 square kilometres, most of which is forested mountains.

There are fertile plains around the meeting point of the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai Rivers where the town of Kanchanaburi is located.

This is where you'll find the notorious Bridge over the River Kwai. You can take a stroll over the bridge and back.

There are many restaurants along the riverside and you can get some good pictures of the bridge from here.

The train still runs up to Nam Tok Station and it's an exhilarating ride along the wooden Whampo (Wang Pho) Viaduct which clings to the mountainside.

From Kanchanaburi town you'll enjoy the trip up the Tiger Temple where you can have your photo taken with an unfettered tiger resting its head on your lap.

These tigers have been in the care of the monks following their rescue from jungle poachers. Over the years many tiger cubs have been born here.

This will be a unique day in your life and a stand-out memory from your trip to Thailand.

If you continue up the main road past the Tiger Temple you'll come to the Hellfire Pass Memorial Museum.

This museum is maintained by the Australian Chamber of Commerce to honour the Allied POWs who died while working on the construction of the Death Railway linking Thailand with Burma.

We take especially good care of Aussies and Kiwis who want to visit Hellfire Pass, particularly around ANZAC Day.

On the way back from Hellfire Pass, there are waterfalls, monkeys, elephants and rafting.

Just decide which one you prefer and tell us in advance. Whatever you choose your visit to Kanchanaburi Province is sure to be a memorable one.
